As life is constantly changing, it can become hard to let go of previous situations or even previous selves. Holding onto to past lives can feel comfortable because it is all you know. My co-hiker and I have talked a lot about letting go of our past selves, I expressed to her how challenging it has been for me lately. A few nights before we left for our Sedona bender, she was maintaining her plants in the kitchen. She has a couple large ones that have overgrown their pot. With their long beautiful leaves comes some dead ones that are pulling the plant down. She cut those off and places them into the trash. She explains to me that the plant must shed what does not serve it anymore in order to grow into its best self. Once it lets go of certain leaves, it can make room for more. The plant does not know in which direction it may grow or what new leaves will come in, but it trust there is better things to come and all it has to do is let go. Later on in my week, I had an older mentor explain to me a similar concept. Instead, she used a garden as analogy. She told me that our beautiful garden is ever growing, some plants for certain seasons, some temporary visitors. She said when we have a weed in our garden, we must remove it for the overall health of our ecosystem. Sometimes, we hold onto our weeds for too long and sometimes we misjudge new roots of flowers and dig them up too early. Pay attention to your personal garden, are you still holding onto weeds and/or dead plants? That is all for today.
