Much like my story of the plants, this will be a very short passage. When traveling through the narrow canyon of Sedona, my co-hiker and I found ourselves waist deep in almost below freezing water. To avoid the center, deeper parts with unseen holes, we had to teeter on the side of the canyon wall. We used large sticks to help us stay somewhat vertical with our backpacks weighing us down. As we were walking I glared into the deep section of the river and started spinning. I anxiously crept over the rock, slowing down with each step. My co-hiker ran far ahead and looked back, “have more confidence in your step”. Confidence? The one thing I haven’t mastered, the one thing I avoid, but yet comes back in every activity I do. To have confidence in your step doesn’t assure you don’t fall, but it’s choosing to believe you are secure with each step. As I walked through, I thought about all the other places in my life I wasn’t sure of myself in. If I walk with the belief that I can do anything, I am walking with confidence. Sometimes this confidence is just enough to get you to the other side and when it comes to hiking, please move faster it’s better for your momentum.
With Love, Miss Rachel
